What is the difference between ISP, Registrant, and Registrar?

Updated over 2 months ago

It is common to come across unfamiliar terms when we open the Events History of a Takedown notification ticket.

When a Takedown is requested for an infringement, the team notifies all entities involved in keeping the website active. The team informs them that the content infringes upon their brand and usage rights, as well as the terms and usage violations of each platform.

What does each term mean?

The difference between the terms can be found below:

  • Registrar: The company responsible for legally selling and registering domains.

  • Registrant: The individual or entity who requested the registration, purchased the domain, and registered it under their name.

  • ISP (Internet Service Provider): Refers to the company that provides internet access to individuals.

  • CDN (Content Delivery Network): CDNs are distributed servers that help minimize delays in loading page content by reducing the physical distance between the server and the user. This allows users worldwide to view the same high-quality content without slow loading times. Examples of CDNs include Cloudflare, Akamai, Incapsula, and MaxCDN.
